What is a fracture?

Xray of broken hand

A fracture can vary from a simple crack or chip in a bone, to a complete break. Fractures can be relatively minor and straightforward, or can be extremely complex and involve more than one break in a bone

How can a hand be broken?

Probably the most common hand break is caused by someone punching a wall or other solid object. This commonly causes a break of the little finger knuckle (known as a 'boxers fracture').

Other breaks are usually caused by trauma, such as car accidents, assault, or sports injuries.
